Recorder72 operates on a simple premise: maintain a systematic, freely accessible register of websites organised into a coherent set of sections. The directory was established to provide a neutral reference point — a roll of the web as it exists, rather than a promotional showcase of sponsored results.
The directory is divided into 22 sections, each covering a distinct category of websites. Sections range from broad topics such as the Open Register and Software & Digital Instruments to more specific chapters like Dental Practitioners and Certificates & Official Records. The division follows the subjects most commonly submitted for listing, rather than any imposed taxonomy.
All 838 entries currently on file have been reviewed before inclusion. The review is a factual check — is the site active, does it serve a legitimate purpose, does it fit the category filed? — rather than an editorial judgement on quality or content. Sites that meet the standard are filed; those that do not are declined.
Submission is free. There is no fee to file a site with Recorder72 and no account to create. The form on the submission page asks for a site name, URL, category, and a brief description. Once submitted, the entry is queued for review and, if accepted, filed in the appropriate section of the register.
The register is updated on a rolling basis. As new submissions clear review, entries are added to the relevant section. The recently-added column on the home page reflects the most current filings. Recorder72 does not remove entries that remain active and correctly categorised.
